courage, energy, growth, hope

Stuff of Life

Saddness and suffering stare us down in every corner, in every shadow, in every turn of the sun, and in every newborn’s delighted, open gaze.

The gurus, priests and prophets, the witches and the shaman, the healers and the hucksters equally attest, “You can heal.” And we believe them. We believe them all…almost.

Yet despite the promise and joy and lighthness that healing bestows on us, we cherish the fear that radiates from the beautifully new. We love our tears and we brag about our bruises. We demonstrate our muscular loss in the public square. We rejoice in heartbreak and offense.

So now, what more do you see in that newborn’s unsullied wisdom? Those brilliant eyes reaffirm a simple truth we buried beneath the accumulated clutter of self-deception.

The truth.

We are abundant and pure energy. We are molten earth and the vacuum of space. We are biology and being. Our sadness is smoke emitted from the flash of suffering that fascinates a tired brain and a stubborn ego. Both temporary. Both serving a purpose of fooling with Us.

Friend. Bless yourself in the moment. Celebrate your sadness and suffering…for now. The newborn is napping.
